Job Summary:

The Dietary Aide is a vital member of our food service team, working under the supervision of the Dietary Manager to ensure the smooth operation of our kitchen. This role involves assisting with meal preparation, dining room support, dishwashing, and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist cooks with meal preparation, as directed
  • Take food orders via telephone and fax
  • Wash hands before handling food to be served, before touching clean dishes and utensils, and after touching anything soiled
  • Carry out routine duties without direction, such as wrapping silverware and filling condiment containers in the dining rooms
  • Operate the dish machine to wash dishes, glasses, cups, trays, and silverware
  • Wash pots, pans, and processing equipment
  • Maintain daily cleaning tasks and ensure they are completed to state and federal regulations
  • Clean and sanitize food delivery equipment
  • Complete the final clean-up in the dish washing area, including the pot and pan area, cleaning floor, floor mats, and drains
  • Verify meal requests for accuracy before leaving the kitchen and when delivering patient and guest meals
  • Help prepare, portion, wrap, cover, date mark, label, and refrigerate food for assigned meals
  • Set up trays and serving carts according to established procedures, deliver to all areas of the hospital, and notify staff
  • Help clear trays from rooms and scrape waste into trash cans
  • Use food preparation equipment properly, clean and store it appropriately, and report repairs if needed
  • Record dish machine, refrigerator, freezer, sanitizing solution, and food temperatures daily
  • Assist in keeping the kitchen floor dry, wiping or mopping up spills immediately
  • Help stock supply shelves in the storage area and assist with putting away food supplies when deliveries arrive
  • Attend mandatory inservice education meetings and apply information to job tasks
  • Report any evidence of pests or rodents in the kitchen area to the Dietary Manager
  • Maintain exemplary customer service principles for efficient food preparation and delivery
  • Ensure personal compliance with all state and federal regulations, including bloodborne pathogens, infection control, use of hazardous materials, and fire safety
  • Ensure personal compliance with patient rights
  • Comply with the schedule established by the Dietary Manager and communicate any concerns
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills and abilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a professional manner and cooperatively with co-workers
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and others
  • Display a positive attitude toward the job and others
  • Have the ability to work additional hours and in different positions if needed
  • Regular and prompt work-site attendance
  • Complete all other tasks and related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic counting duties, and understand directions
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Presents a positive attitude and a spirit of teamwork at all times while working in the department
  • Wisconsin ServSafe Certification must be completed and obtained within six (6) months of employment
