JOB OVERVIEW / WHAT A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT LOOK LIKE:

The primary purpose of this position is to support the efforts of the Development and Fundraising division of by acting as the strategic leader for prospect management, research, and discovery. This position will create and implement procedures, set priorities, oversee proactive prospect research and management, analyze, and evaluate information. The position will supervise the Prospect Intelligence Manager. The scope of work for this position includes:

• Implement and oversee a comprehensive prospect identification program that identifies, rates, and recommends prospects across all programs (Major Gifts, Institutional Partnerships, Business Partnerships, Principal Gifts and Capital Campaign).

• Implement a comprehensive program of quality prospect research (biographic, financial, and philanthropic) to support cultivation and solicitation activity by the fundraising staff.

• Proactively manage alerts and other proactive research tools to keep fundraisers up to date on major and principal gifts prospects (changes to wealth, employment, philanthropy, and other news).

• Develop and implement policies and standards for donor/prospect research projects with the primary focus on major and principal gifts.

• Work closely with leadership to maximize effectiveness of fundraiser portfolios.

• Lead portfolio review meetings and assists development officers in developing targeted strategies toward solicitation.

• Manage the assignment (and reassignment, including prospect clearance) of prospects and partners to ensure that fundraising activity is coordinated, and prospects are moved successfully through the fundraising cycle.

• Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis of pipeline activity and movement to drive strategic planning across the Fundraising teams.

• Collaborate with the Director of External Relations Operations to make recommendations for database modifications needed to support effective reporting and analysis.


WHAT YOUR BACKGOUND SHOULD LOOK LIKE:

• 5-7 years of successful prospect research experience, information management, or another related field.

• Advanced ability to interpret financial data and individual wealth indicators, identify philanthropic patterns, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations.

• Experience using a CRM database (preferably Raiser’s Edge), iWave, WealthEngine, LexisNexis and/or other prospect research software is required.

• Excellent written communication skills and a clear, concise writing style are key skills to this position.

• Ability to follow ethical standards, utilize discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
