Data Scientist (Wilmington, NC - Remote)

Work Description:

BluePath Labs is looking for a data scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team of developers and researchers in building cutting-edge data science (DS) and machine learning (ML) solutions supporting national security, research and development (R&D), energy, and other critical sectors. As a core member of our technical team, you will have the opportunity to lead projects, identify innovative and feasible solutions, and collaborate closely with a diverse set of colleagues and customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work both independently and as part of a team with other researchers, developers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data science/machine learning products and services.
  • Develop, test, integrate, and maintain production-grade data science/machine learning models.
  • Implement ETL/ELT pipelines for processing large batch data sets.
  • Prepare and maintain project plans; communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to analytic reports, including documenting analysis methods, presenting results, preparing visualizations, and communicating key insights/recommendations.
  • Contribute to building a data-driven culture through collaboration, mentoring, and publications/presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in data science (DS), artificial intelligence (AI), computer science (CS), mathematics, data engineering (DE), or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience building data science/machine learning products, particularly for natural language processing (NLP) applications.
  • Experience with end-to-end ownership of significant data science/machine learning projects.
  • Extensive experience with Python and Python-based ML libraries (e.g., sklearn, pytorch, pytorch-geometric).
  • Experience with cloud-based distributed computing platforms (e.g., Spark, Dask).
  • Self-motivated and curious, with the ability to identify, evaluate, and implement state-of-the-art machine learning solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated passion for helping others leverage machine learning.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in data science, artificial intelligence, computer science, mathematics, data engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Specific experience with text embedding models, entity extraction, text extraction from images, and/or building/optimizing vector search databases.
  • Experience building data pipelines for extraction, transformation, and loading of large-scale batch data into various database systems, including PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch.
  • Experience building APIs for production machine learning systems.
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
