SmartyPants is looking for a motivated, dedicated, and detail-oriented individual to fill our Packaging Development Manager position. The role will be responsible for the development of best-in-class packaging solutions that support our growth ambition. The responsibilities encompass overseeing the entire packaging lifecycle, from pre-commercialization to post commercialization, while also focusing on improving quality, achieving operational excellence, and sourcing materials. This role will work closely with cross-functional partners in Creative, Marketing, Operations, Product Development, Quality, Supply Chain, and external suppliers, to ensure timely delivery of our objectives.


The role will be required to provide expertise related to packaging development and would cover a broad range of challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a strong project management mindset, facilitating the development of innovative packaging ideas that delight consumers and meet functional requirements. Most importantly, the candidate will have a passion for making a significant impact at a high-growth company that is revolutionizing the dietary supplement and wellness industries.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Lead package development (primary, secondary & shipment/transportation) and changes across existing products (improvements in quality, productivity, sustainability) and innovation/growth (new products, new categories, new markets).
  • Identify and work collaboratively with network of internal & external experts, component supplier/convertors, design agencies, testing labs, & contract manufacturers to develop activities related to Packaging Design & development that deliver on business need.
  • Technical analysis of new packaging designs and feedback to project teams regarding design viability; also identify viable solutions to resolve technical problems, minimizing changes to the design intent.
  • Apply expertise in printing technology and the prepress process to optimize label designs and ensure a seamless transition to the printer.
  • Translate insights and business needs into packaging opportunities that will improve the consumer experience and elevate the brand.
  • Lead the sourcing and qualification of new packaging components, highlighting supply chain and cost implications as appropriate.
  • Explore new packaging technologies and processes that support continuous packaging improvement.
  • Identify and deliver cost savings and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Manage good technical data records – project data, specifications, test results.

 

What You Have:

 

  • Science or Engineering Degree with Packaging Degree with 7+ yrs of relevant experience.
  • A clear understanding of diverse packaging materials, structural design, printing techniques, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proven utilization of design thinking principles in developing packaging solutions, creating a fresh and innovative packaging experience.
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory cGMPs and FDA guidelines pertaining to packaging.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in simultaneously overseeing multiple projects and making risk-based decisions within a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Exhibits a solutions-oriented mindset, blending robust problem-solving capabilities with top-notch organizational skills, and adept verbal and written communication.
  • Willingness and capability to travel a minimum of 25%.

The pay range for this position is $100,000.00 to $120,000.00. SmartyPants Vitamins takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs. This position is bonus eligible. SmartyPants Vitamins employees are eligible to participate in our benefits plan. Should the employee choose to participate, they can choose from a range of benefits to include, but is not limited to, health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, parental leave, sick leave, paid vacation and holidays. Any coverages for health insurance will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and associated governing plan documents.
