Serves as the secondary mathematics content expert with the goal of ensuring high levels of student achievement in mathematics. Duties and Responsibilities
- Core curriculum content expert for assigned content area grades 6-12. Familiar with scope and sequence of core curriculum courses, including standards alignment, background knowledge and key terms and concepts taught in courses. In-depth understanding of any performance-based tasks (projects, labs, etc) in courses. Makes recommendations for prerequisites for the courses.
- Leads the development, implementation, and continual use of supplemental curriculum resources aligned to the grade-level Colorado Academic Standards that allow students to utilize critical thinking skills and explore real-world connections to content
- Collaborates with virtual teachers in the assigned content area to ensure that all appropriate accommodations and modifications outlined in student’s individualized plans (IEP, MTSS, READ, ELD) have been made in online coursework
- Uses project management approach to planning and implementation that align to school’s UIP and strategic plan
- Oversee the mathematical components of Senior/Graduation Capstone
- Collaborate with team members to maintain grade level “Year At A Glance” Overview documents

- The instructional improvement support designed and delivered by the Specialist is of high quality and appropriately addresses the needs of the students and teachers/mentors

Duties and Responsibilities
- Models for and coaches identified staff members on the instructional delivery of approved curriculum with a focus on student learning outcomes and student teaming protocols that promote critical thinking, collaboration and student voice.
- Provide professional learning in mathematics instruction to ensure progress on school priorities intended to improve teaching and learning,
- Provide content-specific site and school-wide instructional professional development.
- Provide training for new mentors in student engagement/classroom management, technology-based resources including online curriculum and Google tools, language acquisition and development, differentiation/intervention strategies and resources, student support resources, and other HOPE educational initiatives.
- Consult and provide site-based professional development as needed to support department, learning center and/or school improvement efforts

- Specialist successfully engages teachers in learning new instructional strategies and practices.
- Feedback results from staff show high levels of agreement that professional development sessions was relevant and applicable to their job

Duties and Responsibilities
- Deeply analyzes student achievement data (course data, interim assessments, and other measures) to determine how to develop materials and provide targeted, high-quality instructional resources
- Provide stakeholders with regular reports on student, learning center and school-wide academic data
- Assist sites in analyzing student needs and linking student needs to appropriate interventions for struggling students
- Proctor school and state assessments as directed

- Analyzes all forms of achievement data to develop material and instructional resources.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts research relevant to best practices in assigned content area(s)
- Advocates on behalf of students and staff, especially when inequities are found
- Adjusts practice and prioritization of other tasks based on the needs of the Learning Center and HOPE.
- Sets personal goals related to student engagement outcomes and seeks opportunities to improve personal professional practice through professional development and reflection.
- Participates in school events/activities and/or clubs or special elective programming, including those that may happen outside of usual school/workday hours. All staff are expected to volunteer for a minimum of 4 event or club/sport/year.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, LICENSURE AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Active Colorado teaching license
- Five (5) or more years of teaching and literacy experience at the secondary level(6-12)
- Experience with culturally and linguistically diverse learners
Preferred
- Masters in Curriculum or Educational Leadership
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

- Fluency and literacy in English, excellent oral and written communication

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Curriculum Specialist position reports to and is evaluated by the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction and does not supervise any HOPE or Learning Center employees.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FUNCTIONING REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Compare, analyze, communicate, instruct, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate
- Communicate effectively using speech and hearing
- Use near vision to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for computer use, reading and instruction
