Purpose

 

Entry to mid-level technical position to support ship to shore crane maintenance in a fast-paced and dynamic 24/7 industrial environment at a major marine stevedoring terminal in New Jersey.  Provide technical field support, analysis, and project management for the installation, maintenance, and repair of Operational Technology Devices in heavy equipment and ancillary support systems at a high-volume container terminal. Ensure that existing specialized container handling equipment and infrastructure is adequately secured, patched, and maintained from malicious threats to facilitate safe and efficient cargo handling operations in accordance with applicable standards, codes, and industry recognized best practices. Support marine terminal operation through collaboration with other departments.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the annual departmental safety action plans through compliance monitoring, and for championing Maher’s Safety-First culture
  • Provide technical support as related to Operational technology (‘OT’) devices to a unionized labor force of ILA electricians and mechanics
  • Collaborate with Maher’s IT department and equipment OEMs to review, remediate and track remediation of identified OT device vulnerabilities
  • Troubleshoot failures of OT equipment and equipment infrastructure to develop recommendations and procedures for appropriate and timely corrective action
  • Responsible for maintaining OT topology diagrams and ensuring they are accurate and up to date
  • Perform regular inspections of container handling equipment and departmental workshops. Document and report any deficiencies to include recommendations for remedies
  • Coordinate with Operations to schedule and support cleaning and maintenance of cameras, scanners, and associated OT equipment
  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and supervise projects as assigned. Develop project budgets, track costs and progress against budgets and schedules
  • Assist with the development of electrical and communications network technical specifications for new equipment purchases
  • Assist in the preparation of designs and specifications for projects
  • On-Call 24/7 rotation for technical support/assistance as necessary
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

Essential Qualifications and Skills


  • Candidate MUST possess or be able to acquire a Transportation Workers Identification Card (“TWIC”) and successfully pass the licensing process for a Port Access Card with the New Jersey State Police.
  • Ability to stand for up to 4 consecutive hours
  • Ability to climb steps and vertical ladders
  • Ability to work at heights up to 200 ft while confined within handrails and walkways or from an aerial lift basket.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and computer networking drawings/schematics
  • Technical report writing and presentation skills
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with computer networking principles including computer network hardware such as switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to collaborate with key persons to ensure clarity of the specifications and expectations of the company
  • Strong skills in the following areas: networking, active listening/learning, critical thinking, analytical thinking, judgement, and decision making, management of material resources, project management, mathematics, time management, presentation, and operations analysis

 

Other Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficiency in 2D/3D Computer Aided Design Systems
  • Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent
  • Computer Networking & Cyber Security Certificate, AS degree, or equivalent technical work experience
  • BS degree in an Electrical or Computer Engineering discipline or equivalent technical work experience
  • Prior experience with a computer-based maintenance and management system
