Optical Billing Specialist

As a Billing Specialist you will be responsible for overseeing the billing process for our optical customers, patients, and MVP platforms. This position performs many accounting, customer service, and organizational tasks to promote the financial health of the organization.
Schedule:
8-4:30 M-Thur
8-4 Friday
Hybrid after training
What you will be doingWhat does this position do?
- Review, correct and submit claims/invoices for payment.
- Obtain Prior Authorization on any medically necessary contact lenses.
- Check insurance payments for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
- Resubmit corrected claims to various optical insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
- Submit re-considerations, re-determinations, and appeal when applicable.
- Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness and obtain any missing information.
- Assist patients and clerical staff with billing questions.
- Maintain optical patient accounts receivable.
- Follow-up with payers on unpaid claims and take corrective action.
- Generate patient and insurance refund requests.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by supervisor.
What you knowWhat are the position requirements?
- Must have a High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience, in a billing role within an optical group practice.
- Current or former optician a plus
- Ability to analyze key performance indicators and execute corrective actions to improve performance.
- Must have basic keyboarding and mathematical skills.
- Must have knowledge of ICD0, HCPCS, Medicare/Medical Terminology; helpful to have Practice
- Management System experience.
- Must have strong verbal/written communication abilities, respectful and empathetic toward patients
- and co-workers.
- Must be organized, have strong attention to detail, and be able to execute quickly and efficiently.
- Must have effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Must have high integrity; be reliable and hard-working.
- Must have experience answering multi-line telephones.
