Essential Functions:
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work with minimal errors and complete accuracy.
- Able to handle stressful situations caused by high volume and deadlines.
- Ability to operate phone and display good phone etiquette at all times.
- Frequent use of office equipment including telephone, computer, fax, etc.Ability to perform appropriate functions in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Adherence to company safety regulations.Adherence to department policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.Interact directly with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation.
- Ability to perform blood drawing procedures, to include venipuncture and capillary techniques, using standard equipment such as vacutainer tubes, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.
- Ability to process/prepare samples for analysis.
- Assure that requisition includes patient demographics and accurate required billing information.
- Ability to transcribe physician orders.Facilitate the unobserved collection of urine specimens.Process, label, and store specimen samples for subsequent analysis.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, reordering as required; stocks supplies on carts and hand trays.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary work environment.
- Ability to perform specialized collection as requested.
- Occasionally delivers or pick up specimens outside of the laboratory.
- Ability to use appropriate instruments such as centrifuges in order to maintain specimen integrity.
- Must be able to multitask with minimal errors.
- Train new hires in the laboratory and outside the laboratory on proper phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
- Must remain competent in all assigned tasks.
- Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
- Prepare and send out specimens for delivery to various locations.
Qualifications and requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate's degree- Preferred
- WA State MA-Phlebotomist Or MA-C License
- At least 6 months or more of recent, directly related experience to include 3 months practicum gained in a clinical, hospital or laboratory setting.
