As a Hospital Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to hospital patients during the night shift (7 pm - 7 am). You will collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team to assess respiratory needs, plan and implement care, and evaluate outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in delivering high-quality respiratory therapy in accordance with hospital standards and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Ventilation: Initiate and monitor both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Breathing Therapy: Conduct various types of breathing therapy and patient assessments to improve respiratory function.
  • Pulmonary Techniques: Perform postural drainage, percussion, and bronchial hygiene techniques to enhance patient respiratory health.
  • Pulmonary Function Tests: Conduct bedside pulmonary function tests to assess and monitor patient lung function.
  • Blood Gas Analysis: Carry out blood gas puncture and analysis, maintaining quality control of blood gas analyzers.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to cardiac arrest and Rapid Response situations, performing CPR and emergency endotracheal intubation of adult patients.

Requirements:

  • Education: Graduate of an approved program of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Licensure: Current and valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license.
  • Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential; current BLS/CPR certification. NRP and ACLS strongly recommended.
  • Experience: Prior acute care hospital experience required.
  • Skills: Effective communication and decision-making skills; organized and able to prioritize tasks; detail-oriented with good judgment and the ability to work independently.
