Martins Ferry, Ohio, United States East Ohio LLC Full time
Position Overview

This position is crafted to outline the essential nature and level of responsibilities expected from professionals in this role. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all tasks, duties, and qualifications that may be required from the individual assigned to this position. The responsibilities may vary based on the facility's size and specific needs. Receipt of this position description does not imply or establish a promise of employment or an employment contract of any kind; employment with East Ohio LLC is at-will.

Physical Therapists (PTs) deliver a range of therapeutic services aimed at assisting individuals recovering from injuries or illnesses to regain or enhance their physical capabilities. A physical therapist is responsible for assessing a patient's condition and creating a tailored rehabilitation and treatment strategy. The primary objective of PTs is to develop, sustain, and restore optimal movement and functional capacity, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

Physical Therapists deliver patient care grounded in scientific principles of physical therapy. The responsibilities of the Physical Therapist encompass (but are not limited to):

  • Designing and implementing medically prescribed physical therapy interventions for patients experiencing injuries or conditions affecting muscles, nerves, joints, and bones, aimed at restoring function, alleviating pain, and preventing disability.
  • Reviewing physician referrals and patient medical histories to determine necessary physical therapy interventions.
  • Conducting assessments of patients' strength, motor skills, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, documenting findings to develop or modify treatment plans.
  • Creating and documenting comprehensive treatment programs based on patient evaluations.
  • Administering manual exercises to enhance and maintain physical function.
  • Guiding, motivating, and assisting patients in performing various physical activities, including non-manual exercises, mobility tasks, daily living activities, and the use of assistive devices such as crutches and canes.
  • Applying physical agents and treatments using equipment like electric stimulation, moist heat packs, cold packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound devices.
  • Evaluating treatment effectiveness at various stages and adjusting interventions to maximize patient benefit.
  • Providing massage therapy.
  • Administering traction treatments to alleviate discomfort.
  • Documenting treatment details, patient responses, and progress in medical records or electronic systems.
  • Educating patients and their families on treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to gather additional patient information, propose treatment adjustments, and integrate physical therapy with broader healthcare strategies.
  • Training and supervising assistants and aides in their work activities.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned, based on the specific setting.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Complete mandatory orientation as directed by the facility.
  • Adhere to facility and OSHA safety protocols while on duty.
  • Follow established facility policies and procedures.
  • Respect the cultural and religious practices of patients.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability for assigned shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
  • Current Physical Therapy license in good standing with the relevant State licensing board.
  • Demonstrated cognitive skills relevant to the position.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Evening and weekend availability may be necessary to accommodate patient schedules. The role is physically demanding, requiring prolonged periods of standing, as well as frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Physical Therapists are expected to handle heavy equipment and assist with patient transfers and mobility. To prevent injury, adherence to proper body mechanics and lifting protocols is essential. In sub-acute or long-term care environments, the physical demands are typically greater due to the level of assistance required by patients.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring patients may involve lifting up to 100 pounds. Capability to stand for extended periods, perform fine motor tasks, and maintain visual acuity. The physical demands outlined here represent the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. While executing job duties, employees are regularly required to stand, communicate, and hear. Employees frequently walk and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds is required. Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The overall physical demand rating for this position falls within the Medium classification according to occupational standards, but due to the nature of the patient population in contracted facilities, this role is classified as Heavy, requiring the exertion of 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
