Job DescriptionDescription

What You Will Do
  • Performs and oversees the Mortality/Autopsy service duties, acts as a liaison, maintaining relationships to outside agencies (CCME, Funeral Homes, city and county municipalities, clients, etc.), organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards and accommodate patient care needs. Acts as a technical resource for all aspects of the Mortality service for all UHHS deaths; including family support and guidance after the death of a patient, relations with funeral homes, Ohio Revised Code as it relates to deaths, preparation of death certificates (EDRS), and performance of the autopsy.
  • In collaboration with Manager, ensures up-to-date and well-developed policies and procedures are in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. Conducts scheduled monitoring and audits to regularly review and evaluate regulatory compliance gaps and deviations. Escalates any gaps to medical and CLIA directors in timely fashion with suggestions of process improvement to avoid future gaps.
  • Participates in laboratory and departmental efforts to reduce cost, improve efficiency and promote a safer working environment. Engages in continuous process and service improvement.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams internal and external to the department and garners relationships with other UH departments for mutually beneficial collaborations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Allied Health related field or counseling (Preferred) or
  • 2 years of college and graduate of Mortuary School (Required) and
  • Education, certification and experience necessary to qualify as a General Supervisor under CLIA ‘88 personnel requirements. (Required)
Work Experience
  • 3+ years practical experience in Mortuary Services (Required) and
  • Experience with EDRS (Electronic Death Registration), (Required) and
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Required) and
  • 3+ years practical experience in Autopsy performance. Knowledge of human anatomy (Required)
