Position Overview:
As an Environmental Compliance Engineer & Project Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring that clients meet environmental regulations and managing complex environmental projects from start to finish. You will also have the opportunity to lead and mentor junior staff, guiding them in technical aspects, project management, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Compliance:
- Lead and manage environmental compliance programs for clients, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and assessments to evaluate project performance and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Stay updated on evolving environmental laws and regulations to ensure client projects remain compliant.
Project Management:
- Oversee and manage environmental projects from initiation through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
- Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Supervise the preparation of environmental impact assessments, permits, and regulatory submissions, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
Client Engagement & Reporting:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on environmental compliance and project-related issues.
- Prepare and deliver clear, concise reports, recommendations, and technical documentation to clients and regulatory agencies.
Mentorship & Staff Development:
- Manage, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior staff, helping them grow professionally and ensuring they have the necessary skills to succeed in their roles.
- Foster a collaborative, supportive environment that encourages continuous learning and development.
- Provide training on regulatory requirements, compliance procedures, and best practices.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers, scientists, and other technical experts to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
- Ensure effective communication across teams and contribute to the overall success of the project.
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience:
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in environmental compliance and project management.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale environmental projects in sectors such as construction, industrial, or energy.
- Experience in preparing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and other regulatory submissions.
- In-depth knowledge of annual EPCRA Tier II and TRI reportingChemical Data Reporting under TSCAgeneral and individual NPDES permitting for stormwater dischargesindustrial NPDES permitting, and hazardous waste management
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
Professional Certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.
- Additional certifications in environmental management or sustainability (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001) are an asset.
Technical Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with environmental software tools, project management platforms (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), and GIS applications.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and work under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering practical, sustainable solutions.
