POSITION SUMMARY

(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)


The Director of Marketing & Communications leads the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies to support the community outreach and engagement efforts for the federally funded Power Forward Communities (PFC) coalition, of which United Way Worldwide (UWW) is a member. This program, set to run for 7 years, aims to make significant impacts in environmental, social and health areas focusing on low-income, disadvantaged communities.

The Director will work in partnership with UWW staff and PFC teams to support market-readiness for programs and services focused on energy efficiency in low-income households, which includes building awareness of and demand.

This role will focus on supporting the marketing and communications functions for the program, creating materials and content that can be used in local markets, and working with those markets to ensure they are locally relevant. These may include advertising, earned media, amplification through trusted brands, digital marketing, radio, out-of-home, print advertisements in targeted local newspapers, and public service announcements.

The Director will create the strategy and supporting tactics and resources to reach target audiences through earned, owned, and paid channels. This position requires strong marketing and communications experience, specifically in engaging diverse communities. In addition, a strategic mindset, organizational agility, and ability to work collaboratively with a range of partners will be instrumental in helping United Way meet its strategic priorities and drive measurable results for community engagement.

Reporting to the Vice President, GGRF, Government Partnerships, this person will partner across teams, primarily with Marketing and Communications and the GGRF Network Engagement Team, to help drive United Way Worldwide's mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

  1. Develop and implement a multi-year, integrated marketing strategy to promote the grant program's objectives and milestones in coordination with coalition partners.
  2. Oversee the creation of marketing and communications materials, including brochures, slide decks, FAQs, press releases, digital and social media content, website content, and other collateral.
  3. Manage digital marketing campaigns, including search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM), email marketing, and social media advertising.
  4. Analyze and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, adjusting strategies as needed.
  5. Design and implement community engagement strategies to foster strong relationships with program participants, partners, and stakeholders.
  6. Collaborate with other key stakeholders to align marketing and engagement efforts with overall program goals.
  7. Manage relationships with external vendors and assigned agencies, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and solutions.
  8. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending approaches to enhance department operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of marketing communications best practices and multiple channel execution as well as prior proven experience of successful management of large-scale collaborative programs.
  2. Must have 5+ years of working experience in marketing with at least 2 of those years being in community-based marketing communications for a diverse range of audiences.
  3. Experience handling grant specific budgets and reporting with ability to not only gather the appropriate data, but also glean insight to improve the performance of marketing communications programs.
  4. Experience working with local, state, or federal governments and related program stakeholders.
  5. Experience communicating complicated topics and ability to translate technical concepts into plain and accessible language for a range of diverse demographics.
  6. Must have strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience.
  7. Self-starter who is able to and eager to learn quickly with a good head for proactive problem solving, while able to adhere to standard and grant specific operational procedures and deadlines.
  8. Ability to inspire and move a cross-functional team in a unified direction and with a unified vision.

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $115,000 to $125,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
