This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Hospitalist is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers working together with one of the nation's premier health systems, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct patient care in collaboration with attending physicians in Pediatric Oncology and SCT, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellows, pediatric residents and pediatric nurse practitioners.
  • Coverage of Oncology and SCT inpatient services.
  • Orientation of pediatric residents to the Pediatric Oncology service, laboratory systems and general day to day processes.
  • Teaching of residents and medical students: 1) coordinating educational time and content to facilitate the educational process and flow of the service; 2) didactic teaching of basic oncology subjects.
  • Continuity of care and presence on the inpatient unit.
  • Coordinate and assist in discharges and admissions.
  • Facilitate transfers to and from the PICU.
  • Overseeing patient transports.
  • Distribution of assignments to pediatric residents and nurse practitioners.
  • As needed, will have primary patient assignments.
  • Participation in quality and process improvement projects.
  • Can participate in research projects.

Schedule:

  • Four x 10 hr shifts will be a requirement at times
  • As needed, will provide coverage for SCT service nights or weekends shifts.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a MD or DO degree and an active NYS Medical License
  • Must be Board certification in Pediatrics or an equivalent board certification with experience in Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation with a clinical training in pediatrics.
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines;
  • The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions; and
  • The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff.
