ERG is seeking a Cultural Resources Specialist (Archeology/Architectural History/Historic Architecture) to join our multidisciplinary team of planners and compliance specialists within our Environmental Planning and Impact Assessment service area. This team provides a wide range of planning services to Federal and State clients that require expertise in cultural resources such as archeology, historic architecture, and Tribal outreach and involvement.

This full-time position can be performed remotely or in a hybrid work environment at either ERG's Chantilly, VA, or Arlington, VA, offices. Candidates local to the greater Washington, D.C., area will be preferred since the position requires occasional visits to client sites in the region.
Job Description: Lead team members in understanding and implementing compliance with cultural resource-related statutes, regulations, and executive orders, including but not limited to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)Lead NHPA Section 106 consultations with local, state, federal, and Tribal stakeholders and conduct related Tribal outreachEvaluate properties for eligibility on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)Support or work within multidisciplinary teams in preparing the cultural resource sections of National Environmental Policy Act documents, including Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact StatementsFoster positive working relationships within ERG and with State Historic Preservation Officers and clientsLead various research tasks, technical writing, and other cultural resource-related tasksAssist with various aspects of projects such as tracking budgets and schedules, monitoring scopes, facilitating meetings, coordinating deliverables, and communicating with clientsPerform desktop-based research and report development and conduct occasional site visitsAssist with developing and implementing cultural resource management programs for federal agenciesAnalyze archeological and architectural resources within defined areasPerform historical research and records searches
Qualifications and Skills:Bachelor's degree in Archeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, or a related field2 to 8 years of relevant experience, specifically including experience in cultural resource managementMust meet the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification StandardsMust currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearanceStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to clearly organize and synthesize project findings and recommendations for a diverse group of stakeholdersStrong understanding of NHPA Section 106 processes and NRHP eligibility criteriaStrong time management skills. Ability to manage and prioritize numerous concurrent projects and meet tight deadlinesExcellent attention to detail and critical thinkingAbility to develop high-quality, client-ready deliverablesIdeal candidates will have experience performing and/or managing Phase I, II, and III investigationsIdeal candidates will have some project management experience, including developing project schedules budgets and meeting client goalsIdeal candidates will have experience with Federal, state, and/or local consultation and coordination for infrastructure projectsIdeal candidates will have the background and technical understanding of cultural and historic resources, water quality, marine and ocean resources, and/or visual resourcesEducational transcripts may be requested
