Medical Tech with Security Clearance

Duties * Perform clinical laboratory test procedures in a general laboratory setting. * Conduct necessary quality control and quality assurance procedures. * Perform clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered. * Operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment used in clinical laboratory testing. * Evaluate requested test procedure to determine suitability of specimen and request and/or obtain new specimen if determined to be unusable. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. * Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. * This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. * This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. * Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. * Tuberculosis testing is required. * Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing testing procedures in a clinical laboratory, calibrating or maintaining clinical laboratory instruments, preparing samples for testing, and documenting results through clinical laboratory automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education in a field directly related to the work of the position such as Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) AND Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS). (Copy of certification must be submitted with application package.)
