Overview of Position

We seek an outstanding and motivated R&D engineer to develop and test photonics hardware for Bridger's LiDAR products. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team to design, build, and test hardware systems to advance Bridger’s technology.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and build prototype hardware involving optical, mechanical, and electronic components, including hands-on fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting,
  • Develop and execute test plans for new optical devices, custom hardware, and/or new calibration and processing techniques,
  • Develop control processes, QA procedures, and documentation to accomplish tech transfer from R&D to manufacturing,
  • Build and validate physics models on topics such as detector noise, thermal management, and laser modulation,
  • Analysis of experimental data in technical computing environments such as Matlab or Python,
  • Optimization of existing hardware designs to meet new application-specific requirements,
  • Contributing to a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians on new technology development from conception through R&D to production of reliable commercial products,
  • Deploying and operationalizing new hardware products in on-site demonstrations,
  • Ability to communicate results effectively to internal & external stakeholders.


Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher in STEM field such as Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc., with demonstrated laboratory experience,
  • Direct hands-on experience in designing and constructing optomechanical and/or optoelectronic products or experiments,
  • Experience with optoelectronic components such as lasers, optical fibers, and/or photodetectors,
  • Demonstrated proficiency in photonics manufacturing or development, including design, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills,
  • Excellent work ethic with the willingness to work hard and efficiently in a fast-paced research environment,
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently on assigned projects in collaboration with a tight-knit team.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Industry experience in research and development or production,
  • Demonstrated experience in test planning and measurement,
  • Experience designing, constructing, and operating optomechanical and optoelectronic systems,
  • Familiarity with physics concepts in spectroscopy and optical noise,
  • Experience with Matlab,
  • Experience in optical/electronic/mechanical modeling software (e.g. Altium, SolidWorks, Zemax OpticStudio, or similar).
