Process Engineering Supervisor

This position will be part of a team that operates a large production-scale manufacturing facility at the Eastman Business Park in Rochester, NY. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with manufacturing processes including Polyester manufacturing, substrate coating, and web conveyance/winding. The position will require developing a strong understanding of various product configurations and specifications along with direct engineering support.

The principle responsibilities for this position are to provide leadership in (1) day-to-day manufacturing support (quality, troubleshooting, and testing) of current polyester products, (2) owning the process conditions/procedures necessary to manufacture polyester film, (3) physical quality/uniformity improvements, (4) interface with upstream and downstream departments as film and materials move from one operation to another, (5) participate in multidisciplinary teams on new product development initiatives, and (6) team leadership.


Other responsibilities include:

Safety

•Actively participates in safety and environmental initiatives.

•Promotes safe behaviors – procedural adherence, safety reviews, change management.

•Is proactive in finding and implementing improvements to reduce the risk of safety and environmental incidents.

Technical Leadership

•Develops a deep understanding of the manufacturing process for high quality polyester film base.

•Develops a deep understanding of various product configurations, specifications, and applications.

•Responsible for continuous improvement of products and processes including development of new products.

•Champion the change management process.

Supervision/Leadership

•Understands and communicates company policies and procedures.

•Ensures that each employee has been trained appropriately for their current assignment.

•Conducts periodic performance reviews and coaching events with each direct report.

•Ensures and reinforces teamwork across engineering, operations, and skilled trades at all levels.


Performance & Activities

•Reinforces the quality policy by actively suggesting and implementing improvements to products, processes, people, and services.

•Participates in daily Morning Markets and verifies that all required performance metrics and action items are appropriately completed/addressed.

•Works with engineers to identify and resource key projects and activities to support business metrics, improve product quality, and assures long-term sustainability of the operation.

•Conducts required audits and confirmation checks.

•Benchmarks and works with other equivalent department personnel to identify improvement opportunities.

•Acts as a mentor and trainer for other supervisors, engineers, etc.

•Is familiar with metrics and takes appropriate action to assure metrics meet goal level.

•Participates in business strategy planning and decision-making.

Desired Skills/Experience:

•Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or equivalent engineering education.

•Minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience.

•Understanding and background of manufacturing processes and product management.

•Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

•Good team player and willing to learn.

•Good written and verbal communication.

•Leadership and/or Supervision experience.

•Able to support a 24/7 Operation.
