Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Deputy General Counsel will have fifteen or more years of substantive legal experience in the investment advisory business. The duties include providing advice on legal matters and helping guide the Firm’s policies to reflect legislative changes and statutory compliance. The Deputy General Counsel will also work closely with members of the Compliance department with the goal of protecting the interests of the Firm’s clients, shareholders and employees and to further the Firm’s mission and goals.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Provide advice on legal issues and risks
- Participate in the development of corporate policies, procedures and programs
- Lead negotiations on investment management agreements
- Structure private funds for institutional clients including documentation for limited partnerships, CITs and UCITS.
- Provide advice and structure marketing/distribution arrangements
- Provide corporate advice to senior management confidently and professionally
- Develop programs to ensure compliance with U.S. securities laws and regulations ; knowledge of European and UK laws and regulations would be a plus.
- Report to management on regulatory developments impacting the investment management industry.
- Work with external counsel as necessary in a cost-effective manner
- Review and negotiate service, vendor and other material contracts
- Build relationships of trust and credibility with colleagues in order to effectively advise and educate all members of the firm, seeking to create a mindset of compliance and risk mitigation in all aspects of day-to-day work
- Provide legal support on any regulatory examinations or inquiries by state and federal regulators
Skills and Knowledge Required
- 15+ years of experience practicing law, primary in investment management
- Strong academic credentials and member of California Bar
- Top-tier law firm and/or in-house company experience (tenure with a governmental agency, such as the SEC or DOL, may be considered in meeting this requirement)
- Strong leadership skills
- Strategic mindset with ability to anticipate issues and estimate risks
- Highest ethical standards
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organized and detail oriented, self-motivated and strong work ethic
- Excellent team player
Skills and Knowledge Desired
- Comprehensive knowledge of the law with knowledge of corporate, labor and international securities laws preferred

This is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles, CA which requires weekly attendance.
