DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for enforcing all aspects of the Dog Law and any relevant statutes, including the State Dog Law (Act 47) and the Rabies Law (Act 181). Your duties will include inspecting dogs to verify their licensing status in accordance with the State Dog Law, as well as investigating reports of dogs running at large, apprehending those animals, and ensuring their safe transport. You will also address incidents of dog bites by placing quarantines on the involved dogs to protect public safety. Your responsibilities will extend to investigating suspected illegal transportation or euthanasia of dogs, as well as monitoring out-of-state dealers. You will handle public complaints regarding illegal kennels, violations of the State Dog Law, and inhumane conditions, conducting investigations and compiling reports for supervisory review. Research into unlicensed kennels will involve online searches and follow-ups on consumer complaints, with findings assessed by your supervisor to determine appropriate actions. You will also perform unannounced inspections of kennels seeking licensure to ensure compliance with the Dog Law Statute, providing guidance on best practices to kennel operators to promote adherence to the law and humane treatment of animals. Vigilance in observing dogs for signs of illness will be crucial, as you will need to exercise independent judgment in consulting with the Dog Law Veterinarian or notifying a Humane Society Police Officer when necessary.
