Summary:
The main function of a non-IT project manager is to plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as engineering, research and development, financial systems and product roll-out, etc or any other non-IT based project.
Typical Day in the Role
The Management team focuses on device management. It is divided into two disciplines: product management and engineering, with engineering making up about 80% of the organization. The team primarily works on a product called Microsoft Intune, which is described as a very technical team doing very technical work.
Key projects:
• Hosting team events for India-based employees and US-based employees, with the former being hosted in India and the latter on the Redmond campus. The India event aims to host 200 people on-site for three days, while the Redmond event plans to host about 500 people on-site for a similar duration. The purpose is to execute team meetings or conferences, referred to as "team weeks."
• The role being hired for is to assist in executing these large-scale events, focusing on project management, including status updating, content management on SharePoint, and ensuring the smooth execution of the events on-site.
Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm:
• Interfacing primarily with sponsor, executive admins, and team business managers to manage the details of upcoming team weeks.
• Following up with various owners on executing team weeks, including email communication and status updates.
• Managing content on the SharePoint site related to team weeks, which involves packaging information sent by sponsor, rephrasing it, and adding it to the site
Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinate projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
• Present and explain proposals, reports and findings to clients.
• Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
• Analyze technology, resource needs and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
• Confer with management, production and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
• Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates.
Skills:
• Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage ones time.
• Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and production methods.
• Knowledge of computer software, such as MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio etc.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.
• PMI or PMP certification preferred.
• 5-7 years experience required.
