Sterling Search Partners is helping a unique Birmingham firm with its search for a SR Tax Accountant. The Senior Tax Specialist is a key member of the finance team, responsible for ensuring compliance with tax regulations and optimizing the organization's tax position. This role involves strategic planning, compliance management, and advisory on tax implications for business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management on tax implications of business decisions, mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions.
  • Forecast tax liabilities and cash flow impacts to support financial planning and budgeting processes.

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and review corporate tax returns and ensure timely filing with all relevant authorities.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and ensure the organization's compliance.
  • Respond to tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, coordinating with external advisors as necessary.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and analyze tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements in accordance with GAAP or IFRS.
  • Coordinate with the accounting team to ensure accurate recording of tax-related transactions and adjustments.

Risk Management and Internal Controls:

  • Assess and manage tax risks associated with the organization's operations and transactions.
  • Develop and implement internal controls related to tax processes to ensure compliance and minimize risks.

Tax Research and Advisory:

  • Conduct research on complex tax issues and developments to provide guidance to the organization.
  • Advise on international tax matters, transfer pricing policies, and tax-efficient structuring of business operations.

Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with external auditors, tax authorities, and advisors.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as legal, finance, and operations to address tax-related matters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) qualification highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax compliance and planning, preferably in a senior role.
  • Strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, including experience with corporate taxation.
