Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Installation Technician specializing in fiber optic technology to join our telecommunications team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic networks to ensure efficient and reliable communication systems. This role requires hands-on experience with fiber optic equipment, strong technical skills, and a commitment to quality and safety.


Installation and Setup:

  • Install fiber optic cables, connectors, and related equipment in various environments, including residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  • Perform splicing, termination, and testing of fiber optic cables to ensure optimal performance.
  • Configure and install network hardware, such as routers, switches, and optical network terminals (ONTs).


Testing and Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct thorough testing of fiber optic networks using specialized equipment, such as optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs) and power meters.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to fiber optic connectivity, signal loss, and network performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure network reliability and prevent potential issues.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of installations, tests, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare detailed reports on network performance, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
  • Update network documentation, including schematics, diagrams, and maps, as needed.


Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines during all installation and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of fiber optic materials and equipment.
  • Participate in safety training and follow established safety protocols to minimize risks.


Customer Interaction:

  • Communicate effectively with leadership, partners, vendors, and/or suppliers.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet customer needs.


Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certifications or vocational training in fiber optics or telecommunications are preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing.
  • Experience working in the telecommunications industry is highly desirable.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in using fiber optic tools and equipment, such as fusion splicers, OTDRs, and power meters.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic components, transmission systems, and network architectures.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ITU-T, IEEE, ANSI).


Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.


Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or Fiber Optic Installer (FOI) are highly desirable.


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including outdoor and confined spaces.
  • Availability to work flexible hours.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to perform maintenance or resolve critical issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • This position may require occasional travel to project sites and client locations.
