Lewis & Clark seeks a dynamic and creative person to join its Foundation Relations & Strategic Philanthropy team, located within the Advancement Office. In this role you will play a major role in shaping and executing Lewis & Clark‘s fundraising strategy, and develop proposals to major foundations in support of our institutional vision. Your work will support our undergraduate college, our Graduate School of Education and Counseling, and our law school. You‘ll work with faculty, staff, and institutional leadership to craft grant proposals to foundations across the country, and you‘ll put your research skills to use in identifying new foundations whose goals align with our key priorities. PRIMARY PURPOSEThe Associate Director, Foundation Relations & Strategic Philanthropy reports directly to the Associate Vice President, Foundation Relations & Strategic Philanthropy. This role is primarily responsible for securing foundation, corporate, and individual support for academic programs and projects across Lewis & Clark, with a focus on obtaining grants under $100,000. The ideal candidate will possess a background in grant writing or foundation relations, with at least three years of experience in higher education, nonprofits, or corporate relations, particularly in corporate and foundation fundraising. To be successful in this position, the individual must excel at cultivating relationships with a variety of stakeholders, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and effectively communicating proposal developments and stewardship efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESGrant Development and Management
Secure grants under $100,000 while supporting the development of proposals for larger grants as needed.
Design grant proposals and project reports that align with institutional priorities.
Ensure accurate and timely information dissemination to appropriate Lewis & Clark personnel.
Foundation Relations
Oversee all aspects of foundation relations, including prospect research, identification, and cultivation.
Develop and implement strategies for engaging campus events to introduce foundation program officers to key staff and faculty.
Manage prospect research for foundations likely to give at the $100,000 or less level.
Collaboration and Communication
Direct corporate and foundation approaches, engaging the president, deans, directors, and faculty in prospect identification and solicitation.
Serve as a key member of the Advancement team, collaborating with colleagues to identify suitable projects for submission.
Training and Development
Handle special projects as assigned, ensuring alignment with overall fundraising strategies.
Familiarize oneself with advancement databases and prospect management tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in grant management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & BEHAVIORSProficient in grant writing and foundation relations, with a strong understanding of corporate and foundation fundraising practices.
Excellent written communication skills, capable of crafting compelling grant proposals and reports that resonate with diverse audiences.
Superior organizational skills with a keen attention to detail, enabling the effective management of multiple projects and deadlines in a performance-driven environment.
Extremely skilled in using advancement databases and prospect management tools, such as Salesforce or similar software, to track and manage relationships with foundations and prospects.
Commitment to promoting inclusion in the workplace by fostering relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent amount of relevant experience
Three years of experience in higher education, nonprofits, or corporate relations, with an emphasis on corporate and foundation fundraising.
Familiarity with Lewis & Clark College/higher education and the greater Portland metro-area/Oregon philanthropic community.
Experience with advancement databases and prospect management tools, such as Salesforce or similar software.
