Migrant and Policy Advisor

LHH Recruitment in partnership with a non-profit company in DC is seeking a Migrant and Policy Advisor. This is a full time position that is hybrid with ONE day on-site a week.


Responsibilities


  • Assist with legal, policy, and political advocacy to promote humane treatment and integration to arriving newcomers such as asylum seekers
  • Strategize methods that will promote and ensure the ability of the identified populations to seek protection and integration
  • Assist with research on a variety of legal and policy issues
  • Prepare advocacy materials and educational campaigns
  • Build and deepen relationships with partners, coalitions, and stakeholders
  • Review and present sign-on letters to the Vice President for consideration
  • Serve as a registered federal lobbyist on behalf of the organization
  • Any other duties required of the role


Requirements


• A master's degree, law degree, or equivalent in a related field and 2+ years of relevant work experience

• Capital Hill experience a plus

• Expertise in immigration, appropriations, civil rights, criminal justice, homeland security, international affairs is strongly preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Knowledgeable of migration policy elements impacting the U.S. asylum system

• Familiarity with immigration laws relevant to TPS, parole, and asylum law

• Willingness and ability to travel 5-10% annually
