This position is full-time, based in Merlette’s Brooklyn studio, and will report to the Director of Design & Production.


Responsibilities:


Design:

  • Create and update detailed technical sketches and CADs for design concepts.
  • Measure and evaluate all samples before fittings to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Participate in fittings, taking detailed notes and maintaining an organized archive of all fit photos and samples.
  • Attend live model fittings to evaluate and refine fit, construction, and quality for designated product categories in collaboration with design partners.
  • Prepare previous fit notes, samples, and product specification sheets before each fitting to ensure seamless and efficient sessions.
  • Prepare all fit comments for designated product categories and communicate them effectively with overseas and domestic factories.
  • Assist with creating color/material mock-ups by SKU for SMS allocation.
  • Create and maintain an updated design line sheet and manage style and BOM entry in Apparel Magic.
  • Generate factory sample orders and track sample packages internationally.
  • Interface with freelance patternmakers to convey design intent, fit, and construction corrections.
  • Manage an organized system for photoshoot and SMS samples and support day-to-day design functions.
  • Maintain and organize the color, trims, and fabric library, ensuring easy accessibility and up-to-date information.
  • Assist in sourcing fabrics, trims, notions, and supplies as needed.
  • Participate in weekly WIP calls to track progress for photoshoots and SMS.
  • Provide support to the Design team during busy times to meet deadlines.


Production:

  • Keep production files updated and assist with all administrative tasks related to production.
  • Create style codes and UPC codes seasonally, upload them to Apparel Magic, and generate UPC charts for factories.
  • Manage an organized system of PP (Pre-Production) and TOP (Top of Production) samples, ensuring samples are up-to-date and well-organized.
  • Update pricing and factory information in Apparel Magic and prepare costing sheets seasonally for new styles.
  • Run production orders and reports while maintaining an organized file of approved bulk fabric swatches, embroideries, trims, and notions.
  • Provide grading to vendors after fit approval and ensure that grading is executed accurately to preserve the integrity of the design and fit across all sizes.
  • Prioritize workload based on fabric/garment delivery and meet seasonal deadlines.
  • Compile weekly fit lists for designated product categories.
  • Participate in weekly WIP calls to provide updates on production progress and timelines.
  • Take on additional projects as needed; responsibilities may change with updated processes and team structures according to business needs and individual skill set growth.


The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in fashion development, design, or production.
  • High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is required, with basic skills in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Required knowledge in draping, pattern making, sketching, creating technical flats, and understanding of garment construction.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment and meet set deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative and excellent time management skills.
  • Extreme attention to product detail, strong communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the role.
