Direct and oversee largest and most complex projects for the Ryman Hospitality Properties Brand, Including Gaylord Hotels and other high end resorts.. Responsible for strategic planning, practices, procedures, execution and personnel associated with the Company's physical due diligence of potential hotel acquisitions and the execution of all development, design and construction projects for Gaylord Hotels and Opry Entertainment Group. Manage a team of professionals who are responsible for sourcing and implementing design processes and construction efforts. Responsible for working with municipalities and local and regional developers in the sourcing of new ground-up hotel developments as well as the development of excess real estate parcels adjacent or in close proximity to hotel parcels. Reports to EVP & Chief Operating Officer of Hotels & Development.


  • In collaboration with senior management, direct all activities and policies of the Company's development, design and construction-related activities, including physical due diligence to determine the suitability of potential acquisition properties and renovations, alterations and expansions of existing and acquired hotel facilities.
  • Lead and supervise department staff including the SVP of Construction, design and project managers and directors, and other department employees and contractors.
  • Identify, evaluate, and select multiple consultants and vendors for development, design & construction projects including architects, engineers, contractors, subject matter experts, and all others needed for execution of projects.
  • Provide oversight to all terms of engagement and other contracts with consultants and vendors required for completion of projects.
  • Responsible for the development of department budgets, schedules, and implementations to ensure targets are met. Provide timely budget reports and cash flow projections to senior management.
  • Ensure the strategic direction provided by senior management is implemented within every project.
  • Work with city, county and state officials to ensure proper permits are granted for building projects.
  • Negotiate and coordinate with all Authorities Having Jurisdiction to ensure successful completion and acceptance of projects.
  • Review prospective construction projects and provide management with information in support the evaluation of prospective new opportunities.
  • Steer and cultivate the culture and positive work environment of the department to increase employee satisfaction and productivity.
  • Work directly with municipalities and local and regional developers in the sourcing of new ground-up hotel developments as well as the development of excess real estate parcels adjacent or in close proximity to hotel parcels, to increase destination appeal of hotel and grow revenue.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


This position is based onsite in Nashville, TN.


Experience

  • 15+ years experience in development, design and construction projects and a superior understanding of the construction industry and construction practices
  • 10+ years experience leading development, design and construction projects
  • Must have extensive experience representing the client owner on all aspects of large development deals and construction projects (negotiations, contract documentation, bidding, supervision of consultants, dispute resolution, cost tracking controls and budget reporting systems) as well as leading a team of professionals

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must be a dynamic leader with strong personal character
  • Must be results-driven in terms of budget, schedule and quality
  • Must be able to present information and communicate effectively with senior management, employees and consultants at all levels
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, including word processing, Excel and scheduling programs

Licenses / Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record required
