Facture is a Seattle-based design and engineering consultancy that partners with startups and growth companies to materialize innovative new products and services across many different industries. The company is looking to add a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to the team who will be a primary contributor to the mechanical engineering aspect of our projects while also acting as a primary technical leader and mentor for the mechanical engineering team. They will work closely and collaborate with other mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, industrial designers and project managers to move projects from concept to completion, delivering amazing results to our clients and their end customers. This is not a remote position but we have a flexible policy on hybrid work.


Requirements

  • Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years of direct experience in product development and at least 2 years within a consultancy environment.
  • Candidates must be extremely proficient with CAD, including C2 surfacing and computational analysis packages, while also having a very thorough understanding and experience set in prototyping and manufacturing across all volumes and in a wide range of materials (plastics, elastomers, metals) and processes (molding, machining, finishing).
  • Candidates must be a proven team player and love to collaborate with their peers while also being ready to step-up and take the lead on projects, initiatives or external communication when necessary.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or other technical field; or significant work/industry experience in lieu of a completed degree.
  • Proven experience on many projects moving from initial concept to manufacturing ramp-up and all the activities in-between, especially prototyping, as well as direct experience with testing, compliance and certification.
  • Real-world experience creating and reviewing BOMs, ASME/ISO drawing packages and GD&T.
  • Thorough Expert knowledge of mechanical and general engineering concepts, materials, and manufacturing (bonus: physical sciences).
  • Adaptable to a fast paced work environment, being capable of adjusting the level of fidelity of their work to best suit the schedule, scope or budget needs of the project.
  • Comfortable in the midst of ambiguity that comes when working on never-done-before projects where unknown unknowns are around every corner.
  • Reliably gets the job done and delivers high-quality results, on schedule and on budget, at times, while juggling multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Clearly communicates their concepts and ideas in brainstorms as well as providing thoughtful design reviews of their peers.
  • Collaborates directly with clients to understand their vision, requirements, and expectations; present and explain design concepts to clients, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Loves to get their hands dirty using hand/power tools and rapid prototyping equipment on a regular basis to build and test prototypes.
