Corporate Counsel

Overview: The Corporate Counsel is responsible for providing wide-ranging legal services to the Venture group of transportation and logistics businesses, including the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts; advising on applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to DOT regulations; and managing the Venture real estate portfolio. The Corporate Counsel is expected to provide prompt, precise, and practical legal advice to executives and managers.


Responsibilities:

  1. Draft, review, analyze and revise commercial contracts across the Venture group of companies. Create, disseminate, and train commercial colleagues how to use form contracts intended to streamline and expedite the contract creation and review process
  2. Advise Venture executives and managers concerning laws and regulations specific to the transportation, brokerage, and logistics industries
  3. Manage all aspects of Venture’s real estate portfolio, including managing real estate acquisitions, sales, and leases
  4. Support Venture litigation matters, overflow work stemming from mergers and acquisitions, and other tasks as requested.
  5. Identify and implement strategies to reduce outside legal spend and other external costs
  6. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  7. Ability to work independently, as well as demonstrate commercial awareness and sound business judgment
  8. Excellent attention to detail; ability to organize and prioritize competing demands from various businesses
  9. High sense of urgency and drive to provide exceptional client service
  10. Regular and predictable attendance in the Indianapolis office (remote work is not an option for this position)
  11. Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  1. Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  2. Licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana
  3. At least 7 years of combined experience practicing in a law firm or in-house environment
  4. Knowledge of and experience with transportation, brokerage and logistics industries
  5. Knowledge of and experience with Department of Transportation regulations
  6. Knowledge of and experience with real estate contracts and issues
  7. Knowledge of and experience with the types of litigation and insurance claims commonly seen by transportation and logistics companies
