Position Overview:

The Billing Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring efficient revenue cycle management (RCM) within Minnesota Mental Health Clinics (MMHC). This position involves supporting coordinated delivery of MMHC behavioral health services in outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient program, targeted case management, and medication management.

In this role you will be on a team of dedicated and passionate team members managing a book of ~500 client accounts through the verification and coordination of their benefits, reviewing and creating bills, coordinating with health plans on authorization and appeals, and collecting payments from clients.


Key Responsibilities:

Coordinating with Health Plans on Eligibility, Authorization, and Appeals:

  • Collecting client coverage information and verifying eligibility for delivery of services.
  • Facilitate communication with health plans to obtain necessary prior authorizations for services rendered.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting appeals for denied claims or authorization requests, adhering to payer-specific guidelines.
  • Stay updated on insurance regulations and reimbursement policies to ensure adherence to payer requirements and maximize revenue capture.

Reviewing and Creating Bills:

  • Generate and submit claims to insurance companies and other third-party payers in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Identify and rectify billing errors or discrepancies promptly to minimize revenue loss.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical and administrative staff to address billing-related inquiries and streamline billing workflows.

Coordinating Client Accounts:

  • Monitor accounts receivable and proactively follow up and collect outstanding balances of clients.
  • Help clients set up payment plans according to MMHC policies.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and proactively follow up and with outstanding insurance balances.
  • Process payments received from clients, insurance companies, and other third-party payers accurately and efficiently.
  • Utilize advanced billing software systems to track payment transactions & reconcile accounts receivable.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of direct experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management within the healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity in industry-standard billing software systems.
  • Knowledge of mental health billing codes (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) and insurance billing regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, insurance companies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
