I am seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the development and qualification of a complex Airspace Integration System. This role involves driving engineering growth, strategic product development, and effective reporting to leadership, while ensuring alignment with company objectives through technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration with various teams.


OBJECTIVES:

  • Set and align engineering objectives with company KPIs, cascading them to individuals through managers.
  • Monitor and ensure timely delivery of all engineering milestones for Preliminary Design Review and Demonstration testing.
  • Optimize the development and qualification processes for certified systems.
  • Streamline the development and qualification of prototypical systems in line with Technology Readiness Level (TRL) guidelines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process for engineers.
  • Enhance the on boarding process for new hires, continuously improving relevant materials.
  • Identify and develop training opportunities for team members.
  • Ensure engineers have the necessary tools and resources, recommending placements based on skills and project needs.


Strategic Planning:

  • Establish and align goals with organizational objectives.
  • Set and monitor project milestones and timelines.


Technical Guidance:

  • Oversee development life cycle activities, including planning, requirements, design, implementation, verification, and system certification/approval.
  • Ensure compliance with development standards such as ARP-4754, DO-178, DO-254, and produce necessary documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership in system architecture and qualification best practices, participating in gate and design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR).
  • Ensure adherence to IT, cybersecurity, and company policies.
  • Review and ensure compliance with assurance plans and requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Over 10 years of engineering experience in the aviation industry, including 5+ years managing large teams.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related STEM discipline.
  • Proven experience in developing certified complex systems or aircraft.
  • Familiarity with commercial aviation standards such as ARP-4754A, ARP-4761, DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-160.
  • Extensive experience with the system development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in planning and tracking tools such as MS Project and Jira.
