Position Title:          Director of Engagement


Reports to:                 Senior Pastor


Status:                       Management Staff (full-time, salary, exempt)



Position Summary:

The goal of this position is to cultivate an atmosphere of welcome, inclusion, and belonging among members of the church through evangelism, member engagement, nurture and fellowship.


Please Note – This position works Sunday through Thursday and Wednesday nights. There are occasional other nights and weekend hours needed depending on large programming events. When a night or weekend event takes place, you will coordinate a day off with your supervisor during the week after the event takes place.


Job Functions:


1.    Congregational Life

  1. Attending Sunday worship and activities to become fully integrated into the broad life of the church;
  2. Creating opportunities for multigenerational community building through such activities as Sunday receptions, Wednesday night dinners, fellowship gatherings, seasonal, and other group activities;
  3. Be the staff liaison for the Congregational Life Council by staffing, resourcing, and helping coordinate the council’s program and events;
  4. Assisting the Congregational Life Council with recruitment and integration of members into its ministry areas including but not limited to the New Member Shepherds program, Wednesday Night Dinner team, and the Congregational Life Events team;
  5. Advancing church-wide ministry areas with member engagement and recruitment;

f.     Managing Wednesday night dinners with volunteers and caterer;

g.    Managing the Congregational Life budget;

h.    Other duties as assigned.


2.    New Member Recruitment and Engagement

a.    Welcoming and integrating new members into the life of the church;

  1. Identifying potential new members and developing new member orientation and integration processes with volunteers and clergy;
  2. Tracking worship attendance both online and in-person and following up with visitors;

d.    Recruiting, coordinating, and training volunteers for the New Member Shepherds program;

e.    Developing and identifying entry points in all ministry areas in collaboration with other staff, and connecting new members to those entry points as a means of integrating them into the life of the church;

f.     Working with the Communications team to create resources and materials used to recruit new members;

g.    Other duties as assigned.


3.    Programming

a.    Supporting all ministry areas in coordinating large events as needed;

b.    Working with and managing outside groups who are interested in using BMPC’s space;

c.    Other duties as assigned.


4.    Administration

  1. Working to be sure all membership activities are coordinated with and supportive of all ministries, programs, activities, and events throughout the church;
  2. Providing information to pastoral staff concerning the current involvement of members;

c.    Overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of BMPC’s membership database;

d.    Managing the internal and external calendar system;

e.    Preparing for and attending weekly staff meetings in an engaged manner;

f.     Coordinating BMPC’s participation in Bryn Mawr Day and other community events as needed;

g.    Other duties as assigned.


Requirements/ Qualifications:


·      Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a necessity as this person will work with a wide variety of church members and staff;

·      Ability to discern members’ gifts and interests;

·      Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers;

·      Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred;

·      Experience in administration, event planning, non-profit organizations;

·      Experience working in a place of worship preferred;

·      Ability to lift up to 40 pounds to assist with program set-up and break down as needed;

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Zoom;

·      Ability to learn and become proficient in new software and technology;

·      Ability to spend prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer;

·      Ability to work Sunday through Thursday and Wednesday evenings;

·      Ability to work other evenings and weekends as needed depending on large programming events.
