Job Summary

The Baldwin School seeks a highly qualified and experienced Upper School Art Teacher to serve as a long-term substitute from October 2024 through January 2025. As a member of the Visual Arts department, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 5 classes, attending faculty and department meetings, and engaging in other duties typical of independent school life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: In partnership with the department chair and Visual Arts colleagues, deliver curriculum and lessons developed by the department to ensure a cohesive learning trajectory.
  • Classroom Management: Create an inclusive and supportive classroom community, establishing routines and building relationships with students.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Assess student progress and provide students with regular and timely feedback about their progress.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Upper School Division Director and Head of School.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree and coursework in a related field.
  • Experience: Experience in the areas of jewelry making, stained glass making, and knitting.
  • Teaching Philosophy: Enthusiasm for teaching art at the secondary level and embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising, and supporting students outside the classroom.
  • Classroom Environment: A commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Positive attitude towards students, staff, and faculty.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (written and verbal).
