Position: Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will collaborate with the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director to maintain high standards of patient care and ensure the efficient operation of the center. This role emphasizes teamwork among all clinical and administrative staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fosters an environment that supports professional nursing practice.
  • Ensures adherence to established standards of patient care and nursing practices across all service areas.
  • Acts as a role model, demonstrating leadership, teaching principles, management skills, and effective communication.
  • Oversees ongoing Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with Environment of Care programs.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to perform a full range of body motions, including manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Frequent mobility and/or prolonged sitting required. Some bending, lifting, and stooping may be necessary.
  • Normal color perception and visual acuity, either normal or corrected.
  • Normal hearing, or corrected to normal range.
  • Proficient manual dexterity for operating office equipment.
  • Engagement with scheduling, information management, and interaction with patients and staff, which may involve high-stress situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Maintains a safe and clean environment within a urology center.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Exposure to clinical chemicals commonly used in healthcare settings.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION DUTIES:

  • Commits to individualized, goal-oriented patient care.
  • Supports staff in fulfilling their roles effectively.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with physicians and staff.
  • Communicates essential information to ensure continuity of care.
  • Encourages positive interactions with office personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures, including those from the center, state regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Facilitates staff development by identifying educational needs and providing learning opportunities.
  • Oversees the orientation of new nursing staff.
  • Contributes to annual performance evaluations and competency assessments.
  • Delegates appropriate authority to clinical staff for their responsibilities.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Committee, compiling data for compliance purposes.
  • Ensures monthly safety checks are conducted.
  • Acts as or supervises the Safety Officer, ensuring adherence to safety programs.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental and electrical safety standards.
  • Maintains adherence to standard precautions and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures ongoing readiness for accreditation processes.
  • Engages in continuous education related to the position for personal and staff development.
  • Ensures compliance with Urology Health Surgery Center policies.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT AND SAFETY:

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate patient care records.
  • Oversees all Performance Improvement activities.
  • Ensures compliance with fire safety, environmental safety, and infection control standards.
  • Evaluates and critiques quarterly fire drills and mock emergency drills.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING:

  • Exhibits sound judgment and reasoning in problem-solving.
  • Respects confidentiality regarding patient and employee information.
  • Seeks guidance when necessary in performing duties.
  • Acts as a representative of customer service for the center.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:

  • Collaborates effectively with the Associate Medical Director and other personnel.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all staff.
  • Promotes a positive morale and motivation within the center.
  • Handles difficult situations with tact and professionalism.

PLANNING AND TIME MANAGEMENT:

Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Licensing: Valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse License required.

Experience: 2-4 years of clinical experience in urological surgical nursing preferred.

Certifications: BLS certification required.

Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of data collection for reporting purposes.
