The Classroom Teacher is responsible for providing an instructional program that supports the individual needs of all children in a dual language setting, in accordance with the school’s mission and values established by its charter.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

 

  • Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.
  • Create, foster, and maintain a positive school culture, using student data to drive decision-making. 
  • Engage in providing ongoing professional development for teachers to increase knowledge and skills of positive student interactions.
  • Behavior support for all students, targeted students, and students who represent sub-group populations.
  • Provide our scholars with strategies and techniques to support their social-emotional growth.
  • Engage parents in the “student behavior intervention plan” process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child.
  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions along with counselors.
  • Support with the development of student advisory classes to support student social-emotional growth.
  • Create and manage behavior referrals and determine behavior trends.
  • Consult with school leaders, counselors, and teachers to ensure a productive learning environment.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to maintain high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor
  • Manage relationships with students involved in interventions plans.
  • Coach, modeling and support school-based staff in building their capacity to implement and maintain their behavior management system, positive reinforcement, and the school's behavior expectations.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with other youth development organizations and programs Complete all organizational documentation and reporting requirements for services, activities, evaluation, and program expenses.
  •  Support the development of safe youth-centered spaces for all students and staff at partner Schools.
  • Facilitate student leadership, academic, and/or other student programming as determined by Principal. 
  • Collaborate with leadership team, initiate a strong sense of team and serve on committees as appropriate.
  • Develop and foster community connections that will enhance the educational experience of all students.
  • Effectively manage conflict within the school building.
  • Counsel students and parents about school policies.

Qualifications

  • Alignment to BGLIG’s core values and mission. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree in the field of education preferred.
  • NYS teaching certification required.
  • Experience in a high performing charter or district school preferred but not required.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Common Core.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Fluent in Spanish highly preferred 
  • Proficient in use of technology, including various G Suite teaching tools.
