We have been engaged in a search to find a talented Sales Manager for our client. Our client is a manufacturer of wood products primarily for use in the building trade. The company is 100% employee owned. The position is the top sales management role within the organization and will be part of the senior management team. The ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program) allows employees a financial benefit in the success of the company.


This role is responsible for the retention, recruitment, hiring, training, coaching, and revenue of the members of the sales team. The individual will also be accountable for setting and achieving sales goals, analyzing data, recognizing trends, and developing new programs within the client base.


In this highly visible role, you'll spearhead the development of a customer-centric team, leveraging performance metrics aligned with the company's budget and strategic five-year plan. Your understanding of market dynamics and product trends will be instrumental in guiding the team towards success. Collaborating closely with sales personnel, you'll establish revenue and margin targets while ensuring alignment with overarching goals.


As the chairperson of daily and weekly departmental meetings, you'll foster an environment of open communication and collective goal pursuit. Your responsibilities extend to coordinating departmental upgrades, maintenance, and staffing arrangements, all while upholding the company's values, mission, and vision.


Your leadership will be pivotal in cultivating a culture of trust, commitment, and accountability within the team. Through coaching and mentorship, you'll nurture the professional growth and development of all team members, driving towards consistent performance excellence. Additionally, you'll work hand in hand with the sales team to ensure optimal customer service delivery, while also maintaining consistent profit margins. Your role will involve the orchestration of weekly sales meetings, tracking of sales metrics, and the creation of departmental scorecards to monitor progress against objectives.


Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll play a vital role in setting and achieving quarterly goals that are in line with the overarching company strategy. Your involvement in quarterly and annual strategic planning sessions will be crucial, as you contribute insights into emerging markets and trends, and actively engage with relevant market associations.


The ideal candidate for this role possesses a comprehensive understanding of business literature, professional journals, and technical procedures, enabling them to analyze and interpret complex information effectively. Proficiency in written communication is essential, as the role involves drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals to convey key insights and guidelines to stakeholders. Moreover, strong verbal communication skills are crucial for effectively presenting information and fielding inquiries from diverse audiences, including managers, clients, and customers. The ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner fosters effective collaboration and ensures alignment across teams.


Additionally, the role requires a solid foundation in mathematical principles, including the ability to calculate various financial metrics such as discounts, interest, and margins. Aptitude in basic algebra and geometry facilitates problem-solving in situations where standardization may be limited. Furthermore, proficiency in software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, inventory management, and order processing systems is essential for executing tasks efficiently and optimizing operational processes.
