POSITION SUMMARY

This role has primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and maintaining site safety and security programs. This position also serves as the Biosafety Officer and Chemical Hygiene Officer and is a leader of the Emergency Response team.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

Employee Health & Safety

  • Evaluate current facility and EH&S conditions; assess risks and implement appropriate corrective-action plans and policies to improve regulatory compliance, meet or exceed industry standards and maintain company policy.
  • Lead/provide EH&S guidance and compliance support to site management to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements for both the Cambridge and Burlington Facilities.
  • Drive continuous improvements in EH&S performance and programs.
  • Conduct accident investigation and prepare report identifying possible accident causes and hazards.
  • Plan and implement training for employees in work site safety practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain environmental summaries, training reports, regulatory summaries, filings and reporting requirements.
  • Establish and oversee a cross functional safety committee; schedule regular meetings, maintain minutes and manage action item follow up.
  • Manage reporting requirements for waste removal and effluent.
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Plan, develop, implement and manage site procedures for adhering to local, state, and federal EH&S regulations.
  • Identify, implement and manage third party service providers for EH&S services.
  • Advise design teams on requirements for new construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable EH&S laws.


Security

  • Evaluate and maintain security policies to ensure best practices.
  • Manage personnel access control to all restricted areas.
  • Manage 3rd party security service providers.
  • Interface with landlord security leadership as necessary.
  • Interface with emergency personnel as necessary.
  • Work with Human Resources for Onboarding and Offboarding of personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health & safety or a related scientific field; minimum 7 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety with 5 years of program management experience in an FDA regulated environment (i.e. pharma, biotech, or medical device research/development/and manufacturing).
  • Must have in depth knowledge of United States and Massachusetts EH&S regulations and standards and demonstrate effective interaction with regulatory agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to OSHA, DOT, IATA, EPA regulations and codes.
  • Leadership, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and regulatory representatives.
  • Experience with electronic security systems and authoring security policies.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience developing or supporting a behavioral based safety program.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or Operational Excellence experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or facilitate large projects.
