Job Overview:


Reporting to the Project Contracts Manager, the Senior Contracts Specialist will assist in addressing all contractual and commercial issues encountered during the execution phase of large-scale, complex engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) projects.


Responsibilities for Internal Candidates


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


  • Support the Project Contracts Manager in the implementation of a project’s contractual / commercial strategy throughout project execution.
  • Upon project award, assist the Project Contracts Manager in disseminating contract requirements within the project team.
  • Support the Project Contracts Manager in identifying critical or sensitive contractual issues.
  • Support the Project Contracts Manager in developing an effective working relationship with Client team to ensure timely resolution of contractual issues.
  • Support the project team to establish the change management process, setting a culture of change identification.
  • Lead / participate in change management meetings to identify changes that may result in entitlement for compensation and / or schedule relief.
  • Together with the Project Contracts Manger, evaluate cost and schedule impact of all identified changes both on an individual and cumulative basis.
  • Support Project Contracts Manager in the resolution of contractual issues within the project environment to the extent possible. Brief Project Contracts Manager on sensitive issues and support escalation of disputes when required.
  • Support the administration of all contractual correspondence with the Client including the timely release of notification required to ensure McDermott’s contractual rights are preserved.
  • Support preparation of project weekly and monthly progress reports for internal and external distribution as per internal and Contract requirements.
  • Support the project risk and opportunity management processes.
  • Support Supply Chain Management team to coordinate the administration of contractual correspondence with all Vendors and Subcontractors.
  • Support in the timely notice of external changes (backcharges) to Vendors and Subcontractors.


Qualifications for Internal Candidates


Essential Qualifications and Education:


  • University degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar is preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of project execution experience in the energy and / or construction industries (at least 2 of which will have been within a contracts or commercial management role).
  • Good technical background and knowledge of the oil and gas construction industry
  • Undertakes ad-hoc contractual and commercial assignments and initiatives
  • Fluent in the creation and editing of all Microsoft Office Suite documents
  • Foster an environment of teamwork to maintain high group morale and cooperation
  • Ability to multi-task, with excellent organizational and time management skills to achieve project goals
  • Excellent Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
