The Senior Patient Access Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for patients accessing healthcare services. This position is responsible for initiating encounters for patients who qualify for hospital services.

The Patient Access team is dedicated to maintaining precise data entry, which includes capturing demographic and financial details for each patient account.

In addition, this role encompasses various procedural responsibilities such as verifying insurance, obtaining necessary authorizations for services, and managing collections for patient balances, including any outstanding amounts.

The Senior Patient Access Coordinator is instrumental in achieving favorable financial outcomes for all patient services. This position requires effective communication with patients, families, healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and third-party payers. A professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and a commitment to teamwork are essential for success in this role.

This advanced position necessitates a comprehensive understanding of Patient Access operations across multiple areas, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment in resolving customer inquiries and issues during routine operations.

Furthermore, this role is expected to contribute to the training and development of fellow associates.

Qualifications:
A. Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • An Associate Degree is preferred, particularly in a health or business-related discipline.
B. Skills

  • Proven expertise and extensive knowledge of Patient Access functions
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in Patient Access
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Understanding of process improvement methodologies
  • Recognized capability to mentor and train colleagues
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and perform repetitive tasks
  • Proficient in computer skills, including basic keyboarding, telephone communication, and familiarity with office equipment such as printers, fax machines, copiers, and scanners.
  • Competent in office software applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Skilled in data interpretation and analysis
  • Demonstrated success in achieving departmental collection goals
  • Ability to read, understand, and retain information effectively
  • Proficient in performing mathematical calculations
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology is required
C. Experience

  • Minimum of three years' experience in hospital registration or a similar role.
D. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Certification as a Healthcare Access Associate through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) is required.
  • AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist-Institutional (CRCS-I) is preferred for certification compensation. Associates must be in good standing and eligible as determined by management.
