Primary Services is excited to announce the role of Middle Office Supervisor for our client in the energy industry. This position is ideal for an experienced professional ready to leverage their expertise in risk analysis, commodity trading, and team leadership. You will play a pivotal role in supporting a large, global company's risk management functions, providing key insights that drive business decisions and ensure compliance in North American power markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Front Office to provide accurate risk assessments and support the growth of the business by evaluating transaction impacts.
  • Lead and supervise a team of Middle Office Analysts, managing staffing resources and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Develop risk understanding of market structures and key commercial strategies; provide detailed risk analysis for informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal, and Internal Control teams to ensure alignment with risk control practices and compliance policies.
  • Oversee risk management practices, including the monitoring and enforcement of internal limits and compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Develop and implement Middle Office risk policies and procedures to manage business growth effectively.
  • Partner with other leaders to drive operational excellence and optimize trading software in collaboration with Trading Systems.
  • Analyze non-standard transaction requests and advise senior management on approvals as needed.
  • Act as the primary liaison for trading inquiries, assisting traders in modeling complex trades for effective risk management.
  • Ensure accurate daily reporting of trading results and positions to senior management and conduct independent analysis and valuation of risk positions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree and/or certification in a related concentration (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mid-office commodity trading organization or on a commodity trading team.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience (preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of the North American power markets, including ISOs/RTOs, financial and physical power trading, congestion, and power products.
  • Strong understanding of the energy industry, commodity trading, macroeconomics, risk analysis, and modern finance.
  • High-level analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.
  • Experience in developing and implementing risk management policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with risk control and regulatory compliance reporting requirements.
