The Inland Empire Economic Partnership’s (IEEP) mission is to serve as the two-county region’s voice for business and quality of life. living environment.  As the region’s only economic development organization, we support efforts in job creation,

leadership development, and regional advocacy for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The diverse membership of IEEP is dedicated to creating economic opportunities that promote a better quality of life for our region of over 4.6 million people.  


Position:


The Public Policy Manager role at IEEP is a pivotal one, responsible for managing the organization’s public policy efforts, advocacy, and engagement. As the primary liaison with local elected officials, the manager is expected to work effectively with staff and develop enduring, positive relationships with multiple offices in local government, Sacramento, and Washington D.C. The Public Policy Manager is entrusted with the following key responsibilities: 

    

  • Tracking legislation and regulations proposed at the local, state, and federal levels that could impact the business community. They will also prepare an analysis of the regulations or legislation, recommend an official position, and draft position letters.  


  • Updating the Public Policy Platform that outlines the organization's positions on various issues. The Platform is updated in conjunction with IEEP members to ensure that it reflects the positions of member organizations.  

     

  • Actively engaging on bills that support or oppose positions approved by the organization and work for their passage or defeat.  

 

  • Developing relationships with other business organizations, local chambers of commerce, and critical regional agencies to build coalitions regarding key regional political issues.  

 

  • Providing legislative support for the Inland Empire Chamber Alliance, a coalition of business organizations from the Inland Empire Region that come together to advocate for issues facing the business community.  

 

  • Providing staff support to the IEEP Advocacy and Government Affairs Committee.  

 

  • Organizing and executing annual advocacy trips to Sacramento and Washington, D.C., to meet with lawmakers and their staff to advocate for IEEP members and their priorities.  

     

  • Collaborating with other staff members to advance the organization's other focus areas, especially to look for opportunities to expand the IEEP's membership base.  

      

  • Participates in other events in support of marketing, workforce development, and business assistance programs.   

   

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO. 


 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 


Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate

the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: 


  • Experience or expertise with the California and/or federal legislative and regulatory processes   
  • Understanding of land use, logistics, goods movement, environmental regulations, and development issues 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  •  Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a related field  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Experience in project management, policy analysis, and issue development  
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal service and be a team player  
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with volunteers and staff at all levels  
  • Proficiency with Capitol Track or similar software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
