Mechanical Design Engineer designs new products and improves existing products within the company’s core markets of solid waste management, agriculture, horticulture, safety and trucking.  Responsible for technical support of product from development through final use including providing shop floor support, field technical support, content production for marketing purposes, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·    Designs and details products in SolidWorks 

·    Designs and supports mechanical systems including hydraulic, electrical, power transmission, IC engines, materials

·    Creates and maintains complete documentation for all new designs including assemblies, drawings, layouts, fabrication details, Bills of Material, product costing, and technical publications

·    Obtains quotations from component suppliers to analyze for purchase and works with purchasing and suppliers to make initial purchases and communicates details for future reoccurring purchases

·    Works independently, as well as within collaborative team of Management, Production, Sales, Engineering, Field Representatives, Customers and other stakeholders

·    Prepares cost analysis during development of new products, new product options or product revisions

·    Provides regular progress updates to Product Roadmap and leads weekly product status meeting

·    Supports production process with design-for-manufacture design intent

·    Supports production personnel with interpretation of design intent

·    Considers and implements design adjusts/improvements based on actionable production personnel feedback  

·    Ensures that projects are moving forward as scheduled

·    Produces Technical Publications including equipment manuals, technical bulletins, and equipment specifications

·    Produces marketing content including product images/renderings/animations/videos

·    Provides technical support for field service and product research including customer site visits

·    Provides technical support for shop floor production equipment and processes as needed

·    Provides guidance for draftsmen

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

·    Must be highly experienced and accomplished in SolidWorks including managing large complex assemblies

·    Experienced in solid model rendering and SolidWorks FEA software

·    Experienced and accomplished in spreadsheet design and use

·    Working knowledge of Bills of Material structure and maintenance within integrated ERP software (SAGE 100 a plus)

·    Has excellent product data management skills (Experience with SolidWorks PDM a plus)

·    Has excellent communication skills – including shop floor, office, field, customer facing

·    Has excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting abilities

·    Has strong mechanical aptitude and enjoys practical application at work and outside of work

·    Is able to use hand tools and instrumentation effectively

·    Has working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical circuits, electronic equipment, and IC engines

·    Is able to troubleshoot issues and determine the cause of a product or process success or failure

·    Is able to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities

·    Has interest in mobile equipment design and operation

Education and Experience: Must have minimum 7 years mechanical design experience with experience in mobile equipment design preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering preferred but not required with sufficient relative work experience.

Work Environment: Work is primarily in corporate office setting. Work is also required in a variety of settings including manufacturing and field environments where the product is used. Field work may include working out of doors or indoors at landfills, construction sites, live animal containment barns, horticulture facilities, at height on structures or vehicles, and other similar environments.  Sitting, standing, climbing, lifting at least 50 lbs. and other physical tasks will be required.
