VP, Market Risk - Natural Gas

We’re partnered with a leading global investment bank that is looking to add a senior hire to their Market Risk desk in Houston. This individual will lead a team responsible for mitigating risk within their commodities trading portfolio, specifically focused on natural gas and power. The right candidate will have in depth exposure to risk measurement through sensitivity analysis, VaR and PnL reporting, and industry expertise with physical transactions. This role is highly visible not only to an esteemed team of traders locally, but the Global Head of Market Risk for the commodities trading arm.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Ongoing review and enhancement of risk management framework and limits on an expanding trading desk
  2. Provide in depth analysis through stress testing, sensitivity analysis, and PnL reporting in order to make key recommendations
  3. Monitor and proactively identify risk within the portfolio through appropriate limit setting and controls
  4. Evaluate strategic improvements to the firm’s risk framework
  5. Effectively measure and communicate market risk within a wide range of complex, physical transactions and in depth understanding of profit & loss
  6. Hands on management and guidance to two analysts


Requirements

  1. 5+ years market risk experience within commodities trading
  2. Strong industry knowledge of natural gas, including exposure to physical transactions (transport deals, storage, etc.)
  3. Deep understanding of risk management analysis through VaR, stress testing, sensitivity analysis, etc.
  4. Management experience strongly preferred
  5. Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field (finance, economics, risk management, mathematics)
  6. Advance Excel modeling (Python or SQL preferred)
