Position Summary:

The Director of Finance at Jackson Hole Classical Academy is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the school. This role is integral to ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the academy by creating and managing the operating budget, overseeing accounting functions, managing procurement activities, handling tax responsibilities, and coordinating with third-party accounting services. The Director of Finance will work closely with the school’s leadership team to support strategic financial planning and ensure the efficient use of resources.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Budgeting and Financial Planning:
  • Develop, implement, and manage the school’s annual operating budget in alignment with the school's strategic goals.
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to the Head of School and Board of Directors to support informed decision-making.
  • Monitor and report on budget performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Accounting and Financial Management:
  • Oversee all basic accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly financial statements, annual audits, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard the school’s assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Oversee the school's procurement activities, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and purchasing processes.
  • Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Manage the school’s tax responsibilities, including the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements specific to non-profit educational institutions.
  • Third-Party Service Coordination:
  • Simplify and oversee the communication and management of the third-party service provider currently handling assigned accounting tasks.
  • Ensure that the third-party service meets all contractual obligations and delivers accurate, timely financial information.



Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field required; CPA preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Experience in the education sector, particularly in K-12 schools or non-profit organizations, is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of managing budgets, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial information for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a finance team.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Must pass a background check and any other screenings required by the school district.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and tax laws affecting non-profit educational institutions.
