Position Summary: We are seeking a Senior Navigation Engineer for a full-time role, based at either our Huntsville, AL, or San Diego, CA location. This position will provide advanced technical expertise in the design and development of Navigation subsystems for precision munitions. You will focus on simulation modeling and detailed analyses for one or more weapon system development projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct trade studies for Navigation subsystems, considering aiding schemes, sensors, and subsystem attributes.
  • Develop and test Navigation algorithms within GA-EMS' six degree-of-freedom flight simulations and analysis tools.
  • Create innovative algorithms and simulation models for Assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of traditional and APNT systems, including component selection, software development, integration, and testing.
  • Support the design and refinement of precision munitions such as guided missiles, gun-launched projectiles, and hypersonic vehicles.
  • Analyze data from simulations, ground tests, and flight tests to validate simulation models and enhance algorithms.
  • Assist with simulation development and documentation according to company and industry best practices.
  • Prepare and present materials for design reviews.


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution is typically required, along with:
  • 9+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree,
  • 7+ years of experience with a Master's degree,
  • or 4+ years of experience with a PhD. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Strong understanding of navigation concepts, anti-jam techniques, aiding schemes, sensors, and current navigation technologies.
  • Expertise in Kalman filters (extended, unscented, particle filters) is essential.
  • Experience in developing and using high-fidelity flight simulations for missiles, projectiles, or hypersonic vehicles is required.
  • Proficiency in programming and analysis in multiple languages, including FORTRAN, Matlab, C, C++, and Python.
  • Ability to develop and communicate new concepts, manage work phases, and provide solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong skills in communication, documentation, presentation, and teamwork.
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance, with potential for upgrade to Top Secret.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours if needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with gun-launched projectiles or flight vehicles operating in extreme environments.
  • Experience with Software-In-The-Loop (SWIL) and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) simulation and testing.
  • Familiarity with implementing and testing autonomy, collaborative engagement, AI, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with guidance and control algorithms, simulation models, and related hardware/software development.
