Our client is seeking a Quality & Engineering Manager to join a manufacturing client in Metro Detroit. The ideal candidate will have experience in both quality and manufacturing, overseeing a team of direct reports. This role has a dotted line up to the President of the company.


Responsibilities:


Engineering Leadership:

  • Guide and mentor the engineering team to uphold high standards and best practices in engineering.
  • Keep abreast of the latest advancements in relevant engineering disciplines to provide strategic direction for the team's technical development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise innovative engineering solutions for complex challenges.
  • Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and specifications.
  • Define project scopes, goals, and deliverables with stakeholders, setting clear milestones and objectives for the team.
  • Identify and mitigate risks proactively, troubleshoot issues, and resolve conflicts to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Inspire and lead a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit top engineering talent, onboard new team members, and offer ongoing coaching and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide constructive feedback to drive individual and team growth.


Engineering Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency within the engineering function.
  • Implement best practices, tools, and methodologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation, promoting exploration of new technologies and techniques that benefit projects.


Quality Management:

  • Develop and implement quality systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Establish and maintain quality control plans, inspection procedures, and product specifications to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions for quality issues.
  • Address product non-conformities, customer complaints, and supplier quality issues.
  • Monitor key quality metrics, analyze data, and generate reports to track performance and drive continuous improvement.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Use quality tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and statistical analysis to identify process improvements and reduce defects.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement process optimization projects and drive cost reduction.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for quality issues and customer complaints.
  • Oversee internal and external audits to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Review audit findings and recommendations, collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor audit action progress, ensuring timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Promote a culture of quality and provide training and guidance on quality principles and practices.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in quality management, mechanical and product engineering, or a similar role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO14001).
  • Familiarity with engineering principles, product development processes, and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives and implementing lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with a track record of motivating and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
