Executive Summary

The Ford Vehicle Homologation & Compliance team is managing a project to utilize Voice of the Customer Fleet vehicles to identify potential emissions concerns ahead of regulatory required In-Use testing.

  • Work closely with the In-Use Compliance team and Calibration team in order to continue developing and maintaining this work stream, including its expansion into low, and mid mileage testing. This would include procuring and coordinating emissions testing and emissions/On-Board Diagnostic components review on Voice of the Customer Fleet vehicles.

Project Overview

In an effort to identify potential emissions concerns, Ford’s Vehicle Homologation & Compliance (VH&C) team has initiated a project to test Voice of the Customer Fleet (VoCF) vehicles. Voice of the Customer Vehicles (VoCF) are vehicles used to identify early customer concerns, measure degradation, and verify issue resolution, by placing pre-production units into "real world usage" conditions.

Project Purpose:

  • Develop and maintain the process of VoCF testing, across multiple mileage points.

Project Objectives:

**** THIS IS NOT A ROLE FOR A TEST ENGINEER ****

  • Develop a structured process to test VoCF vehicles at low, mid and high mileage.
  • Work closely with VoCF team to identify vehicles and track mileage levels to route vehicles to/from Allen Park Test Lab (APTL) for testing at appropriate times.
  • Coordinate with Vehicle Propulsion System Engineering (VPSE) commodity calibration teams for preparation of testing. Obtain relevant vehicle parameters.
  • Monitor and document vehicle VDR data, check KAMs, DTCs, etc. ahead of testing.
  • Oversee testing of vehicles at APTL. Process data on tests at the completion of testing.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of vehicle issues during testing.
  • Develop and maintain a data tracking mechanism for test data throughout the test-life of the vehicle
  • Provide monthly Director/Chief level report-outs on status of VoCF test program.
  • Review collected OBD data and provide follow-up with VPSE OBD engineers, as necessary.

Functional Requirements:

The VoCF Analyst / Engineer would be responsible for managing vehicle testing from determining availability, coordinating testing, and summarizing and reporting data.

Deliverables:

  • Development and maintenance of a data tracking system for all test data for each vehicle
  • Parameter sheets for each test vehicle
  • Documentation required for monthly Director/Chief-level report outs

Experience Required:

  • Engineering Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Familiarity with emissions/fuel economy regulations and emissions testing/procedures desirable
  • Ability to interact effectively with management and other organizations including government agencies
  • Ability to interact effectively through e-mail, telephone, WebEx, etc.
  • Detail oriented self-starter, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to research regulatory requirements
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, accessing databases, etc.)
  • Strong technical and oral communication skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Software/computer engineering, which is not what is needed for this role.
  • Someone who is more software driven does not often have that feel for a vehicle/vehicle operation outside of what codes it may set.
  • While part of this position is very much coordinating/collecting data, we also need someone to have a mechanical/automotive type background where they understand the way a vehicle works and what might be going wrong where there are issues.
