We are seeking a Director of Origination to join our clients Origination team. The team leads efforts in developing client relationships, maintaining market intelligence, and identifying offtakers for the expanding portfolio of renewable energy projects.


You’ll be pivotal in shaping the power marketing initiatives, focusing on nurturing client relationships, and managing RFP and bilateral outreach proposals. Your role involves a mix of proactive and responsive tasks across various projects, clients, and deals.


Additionally, you'll work extensively across the company as the business grow’s the wind, solar, and storage pipeline.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain and expand your network within the utilities, C&Is, retailers, and other players in the renewable energy industry through direct outreach.
  • Oversee the team's conference and organization strategy, ensuring insights from conferences are integrated into the CRM system. Establish a strong presence at industry events.
  • Introduce innovative approaches to fostering new connections and mentor junior staff in external relationship building.
  • Lead the team's CRM efforts from an Origination perspective, utilizing it for market insights and project coordination.
  • Take ownership of the Market Intelligence Report, ensuring its relevance and completeness.
  • Monitor key market trends and client requirements that influence contractual structures, integrating this knowledge to propose equitable risk distribution.
  • Identify new methods and sources for customer, market, and tariff analyses.
  • Provide market insights on unique offtake agreements such as proxy revenue swaps, financial hedging, and REC sales.
  • Guide the market readiness process, evaluating the readiness to market projects in detail.
  • Review offtake and nodal analyses for various project tiers.
  • Engage in discussions about advanced late-stage projects with potential off-takers.
  • Offer insights on RFP viability based on market intelligence and propose improvements to the RFP process.
  • Review and provide feedback on proposals before presenting them to potential off-takers. Offer guidance on complex proposals.
  • Lead the offtaker relationship during negotiations, collaborating closely with the Structuring team.
  • Adhere to the Origination team's processes and procedures, suggesting refinements for improvement.


Requirements:


  • Degree from an accredited institution; MBA or other Master's Degree is advantageous.
  • 7+ years of experience in the power sector, with at least 2 years in middle marketing or origination work; familiarity with renewables is necessary.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of renewable energy markets (ISOs/RTOs and WECC) and key drivers, especially for wind, solar, and storage.
  • Proficiency in building relationships with potential counterparties and leveraging existing client networks across various markets.
  • Previous involvement in successful client negotiations, including contractual analysis; prior deal leadership is beneficial.
  • A strong communicator across various mediums.
  • Organised and detail-oriented.
  • Creative problem-solver who collaborates across the organization.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines autonomously.
  • Capable of prioritizing and delivering high-quality work without direct supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
