We are seeking a Director of Clinical Training to lead and implement our national Ophthalmic Technician training program. The person in this position will also be involved in training front office staff. The Director of Clinical Training will work in close cooperation with the Practice Administrators, Chief Medical Officers and the Executive Team to attain these goals. The Director will take a leadership role in overseeing ancillary staff training programs in the clinics, supporting the application of evidence-based practice, and defining innovative strategies to builda culture of clinical excellence and reliable care. This role collaborates with all departments within the organization to coordinate and support organizational interprofessional educational and development initiatives. The Director of Clinical Training will hold hands on Ophthalmic Technician training courses every four weeks and travel to multiple clinics to train.


Travel for this position is 30%.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Development of a clear program plan that includes:

^ Developing objectives relating to knowledge and skills

^ Integration of milestones and entrust-able professional activities into the curriculum

^ Methods by which the objectives are to be achieved (learning activities)

  • Implement an evaluation system that clearly documents competency and incorporates testing to confirm training objectives are met.
  • Conduct of the program, including determination of the milestones needed to achieve competency in a specific procedure (be it product or technique)
  • Annual review of the program to assess the quality of the educational experience and to review the resources available to ensure that maximal benefit is being derived from the integration of the components of the program.
  • Contributes to the assessment of performance of Technicians and other ophthalmology staff through a well-organized program of in- training evaluation and assessment and impacts on patient care.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), and instructional software

Education and Experience:

Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology Practice

Bachelor or Master Degree in Business, Nursing or Health Care Administration preferred.

Minimum two (2) years’ training experience or related.


Physical Requirements:

Sitting, Standing, Bending, Reaching, Stooping, Walking and Lifting

Ability to see, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks

Driving independently to other facilities


Working Conditions:

Travel to other locations is necessary at times.

Occupational Exposure - Category Ill exposure to blood-borne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards.
