Key Responsibilities:

The Database Systems Administrator oversees the daily operations of production, test, and development SQL databases, ensuring optimal performance, integrity, and security. They collaborate with technical, security, and compliance teams to implement and enforce database policies and procedures. This role involves diagnosing and resolving technical issues, optimizing database performance through strategic adjustments, and staying current with emerging database technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of production, test, and development SQL databases.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, addressing performance issues through hardware upgrades, server configurations, and index/query optimizations.
  • Monitor supported third-party SQL databases for performance and operational efficiency.
  • Manage database system capacity planning to meet current and future requirements.
  • Collaborate with technical, security, and compliance teams to develop and implement database security policies and procedures.
  • Implement and review data models, database designs, and data maintenance codes following industry best practices.
  • Work closely with IT and business units to configure, update, and troubleshoot database systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems related to database operations, including performance, capacity, and replication issues.
  • Monitor and update database configurations in response to technological advancements and business needs.
  • Research and analyze new database technologies to support the organization's operational requirements.
  • Provide timely technical support for database issues across all functional areas of the organization.
  • Build new SQL Servers, including operating system imaging and application installations as required.
  • Track, migrate, and upgrade databases to the latest SQL Server version based on vendor specifications.
  • Ensure all databases are backed up to meet business Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and test restores to verify Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Administer the "RecoverPoint" environment for Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR), including SAN LUN management and server replication setup.
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages promptly, including after-hours and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Systems Administrator (MCDBA) certification or similar technical certifications preferred.
  • Proven experience in technical support with proficiency in network operating systems, client/server management, backup/disaster recovery, enterprise-class databases, and information security.
  • Functional knowledge or work experience within a supported business unit desirable.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with strategic thinking ability.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear terms, and adept at technical writing for documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in end-user software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, databases, email, and networking tools.
